Nine killed as private jet crashes near Florida home
A Learjet crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida on Sunday, killing all nine people on board.
A Learjet 60 crashed in a residential area near Cresthaven in Palm Beach County, Florida on Sunday, killing all nine people on board. The aircraft, carrying six passengers and two crew members, departed Austin, Texas bound for the Bahamas. At 35,000 feet, the pilots reported icing, moderate turbulence and precipitation, then requested to climb 2,000 feet. Less than 30 seconds later, they declared a mayday, reporting descents exceeding 20,000 feet per minute. The National Transportation Safety Board said weather conditions are a major focus and there is preliminary evidence the aircraft began breaking apart before impact. Among those killed were Adam Robinson, 44, a Texas tech entrepreneur, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children, their nanny, two family friends, and pilots Jeff Gregory, 55, and Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20. No one on the ground was injured.
